Five for Friday-The Countdown is On!

I'm linking up on this beautiful Friday in May for Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching!

The countdown is definitely on!   Though I would never admit that to my students.  It's amazing to me that the school year is winding down, and even crazier to hear how many of you have only a few days left!  Today I downloaded a free End of School Year Countdown app from itunes.  After today I have 14 days to go!

The long snowy winter and rainy spring finally gave way to some clear days and we actually have a foundation.  It is so exciting to be underway!

I got to do one of my favorite lessons today in Social Studies where we watch a great music video called Too Late to Apologize-A Declaration.  It's perfect to show after the students have learned about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War.  I'm such a nerd I get goosebumps when I show it to my kids and see how much they love it!  You have to check it out!  (Just a note of warning!  This video link below is from YouTube. When the video is done playing you need to stop it right away, otherwise an inappropriate ad shows up.  Yikes!  You can also watch it using TeacherTube.  I couldn't link the TeacherTube video to my blog.  If anyone knows how I can do that, I'd love to know!)

I made a response worksheet for students to fill out after watching the video.  You can get it for free at my TPT Store!

Another must if you are teaching fifth grade Social Studies is Liberty's Kids.  It is a set of DVD's that used to be shown on PBS.  The series is a set of episodes that are about 23 minutes in length.  I have the boxed set, but I know you can also find them on YouTube. My kids cheer when I say, "Time to watch another episode of Liberty's Kids!".

Make sure you check out all the other Five for Fridays at Doodle Bugs Teaching and have a great Memorial Day weekend!
