It's time once again for Pick 3:  This Month's Top Pinterest Picks with Pawsitively Teaching and Inspired Owl's Corner!

My first pin is from Scholastic...

I think one of the best ways to teach about history and character education is through picture books.  I have several of the books featured here and use them every year...Freedom Summer, Back of the Bus, Freedom on the Menu, The Story of Ruby Bridges.  I'm heading to the library this weekend to check out some of the other suggested titles!

My next pin is a link to a great video from the Kid President...

This is a great overview of Martin Luther King Jr. that I plan to incorporate this year into my week of activities.

The next pin leads to a great resource for MLK day and Black History Month.

The pin takes you to a Time For Kids page with many different resources.  The one that I plan on using with my kids is a Then to Now black history timeline.

Be sure to check out all the other great pinterest pins for this month and link up three of your favorites too!

  4. I'm also a BIG proponent of using picture books to teach kids about character and history. Reading some of the books shown in this pin would make a great unit on Civil rights. Thanks for sharing.
