Show & Tell Tuesday - December

It's the most hectic time of the year, so this will be a very quick Show & Tell Tuesday for me.  I've got a honey bun cake to make for our ugly Christmas sweater breakfast tomorrow!

We got the nicest surprise a couple weeks ago, when our neighbor kids brought us this beautiful wreath (with the card below attached) announcing, "This is just a random act of kindness!"  It was a wonderful way for us to begin the holiday season!

My mom was in the holiday spirit too when she was creating festive kerchiefs for all the dogs of the family.  I don't know how much Emmitt appreciated the gesture as Barnaby tormented him by pulling his kerchief until he was finally able to rip it off then run around the house with it!

This goes under the heading, "Why didn't I ever think of that?"  I have been using Words Their Way for a number of years now, and I really think it has been beneficial for my students, especially since I created my own note-taking forms and quizzes (Words Their Way Note-Taking Guides and Quizzes - Derivational Relations).   One thing that has always driven me crazy is how long it takes for my students to cut out the sort and the inevitable piles of words that end up all over the floor all week long.  One of my colleagues told me that she has her students sort them by color instead, which has been working out perfectly for me this year.  It is much quicker and doesn't make a huge mess, and I still send home extra sorts for my students to cut out at home.

Now here's what you need to know to link up and share your Show & Tells!

Linky Information:

1. This is a monthly linky.  The idea is to “Show” up to four pictures of things from school, home, etc. and “Tell” us all about them.  Created the most amazing bulletin board ever?  Show & Tell us about it!  Have the best seats at a Red Wings game, right next to the bench?  Show & Tell us about it!  Play the best game at a party with your class?  Have a pet that just got the worst haircut ever?  Show & Tell us about it!  Only have one thing to Show & Tell about?  Not a problem!

2. Product promotion will be limited to one and only if you are introducing a brand new product or sharing pictures of how you just used a product in your classroom.  The focus should be on sharing, not pushing things to sell.

3. Please choose one of your Show & Tell pictures as your image for the thumbnail and type your blog name to go below the picture.

4.  Use the main Show & Tell Tuesday button and link back to my post.  Use the numbered Show & Tell buttons in your post to share your pictures.

5. Please leave comments on at least three other posts, including the ones before and after yours.  It's always nice to get feedback from your blogging buddies!

  1. Highlighting the words is brilliant! I wish I’d thought of that while I was still teaching:)

  2. I stopped teaching ELA three years ago. I am so glad that I don't have to do word sorts anymore!!!! My kids would be cutting for hours.

    Have a great holiday!!!

  3. In Middle School when I have any cutting activity, I always play a song. Anyone done by the time the song ends gets a special prize (jolly rancher) or bonus point toward whatever reward we might have going at the time. Also, I do love that wreath's significance! Thanks for a great link-up! Merry Christmas!
